Colophon / method

How this site is made.

A short technical and editorial note. The site is part of the argument, so it should be inspectable.

Design

The typefaces are Newsreader (serif), Inter (sans), and JetBrains Mono (metadata). They are self-hosted through Fontsource and bundled into the build; no request goes to Google or any other font server.

The palette is warm paper, near-black ink, and one terracotta accent. The vertical line is the site's mark: a right angle to the horizontal feed. Light and dark themes are both supported; the choice is stored in localStorage, not a cookie.

Build

The frontend is a static Astro build. Pages are rendered to HTML at build time and served from Cloudflare's edge. The dynamic parts — guestbook, contact form, page counters, admin — are Cloudflare Pages Functions backed by a D1 SQLite database. There is no client-side framework runtime.

The site ships almost no JavaScript: a theme toggle, a reveal observer, a reading-progress bar, a view counter, and the forms. Everything else is a document.

Privacy and data

No first-party analytics, no tag manager, no advertising, no cookies. View counts are stored per path, not per visitor. IP addresses are hashed with a secret salt and used only for rate limiting; raw addresses are never stored or displayed. Guestbook entries are public. Contact messages are private and visible only in the admin panel.

One third-party request is outside my control: the is-a.dev DNS zone injects Cloudflare Web Analytics into proxied pages. This site's Content-Security-Policy blocks the beacon from loading, so it does not run and no data is sent to it.

The site does not load remote fonts, remote scripts, or embedded media. The only network requests are to this domain.

Editorial policy

Dates are the dates the thinking happened, not the dates a piece was cleaned up. Long conversations are edited and condensed; the arguments are kept, the transcripts are not reproduced. Names, family details, school, city, and health information are withheld on purpose. Pseudonymous accounts are linked deliberately; legal identity is not. Anonymity is a boundary, not a branding exercise.

Some arguments in the essays were first articulated by an assistant during the conversations they came from. I kept some, rejected others, and rewrote all of them. The positions are mine; the prose has been through a machine, and the source note on each essay says so. Drafts were also checked against the source material before publication.

Corrections are welcome through the contact form. If a claim here is wrong, I would rather fix it than defend it.

The line

Truth is perpendicular to time. Time is the horizontal axis: the feed, the chronology, the résumé. Truth cuts across it at a right angle. The line on this site is a reminder to keep the vertical axis visible.
